Searching in Ovid Databases

Searching

By default in Ovid, you will see the Basic Search form. Enter your keyword search terms in the main search box:

Click options in Limits to narrow your search, such as viewing English language articles only or use a date range (e.g. the last five years):

Click on Search. Your search results will appear below the search form. You can refine your results further using the options to the left of the results. A separate list of Open Accesss results is given to the right:

Changing the database selection

When using the provided links, you will have one database selected by default, but you can change this database, or select additional ones, by clicking Change under under the search menu:

Select which resource to search: Embase, MEDLINE or HMIC (you can select more than one):

And click OK.

Managing your results

The bar above the results gives you various display options; including the choice of default view for each result (title only, citation, abstract), via the 3 buttons:

To view individual abstracts click Abstract at the bottom of the individual result. To access full text, click the green Full Text - RCS England button which will take you to the full text article (where available) or to the Surgical Library which gives further details of print holdings if we have them:

You can use the toolbar to the top right of the results to print, email or export selected articles. Choose the amount of information you want to include, including your search history (useful if sharing references with colleagues):
