Accessing online resources

If you are not already logged into the RCS England website, please log in and then click on the link to the article or journal.

If you are logged in, but ClinicalKey does not seem to have registered it, click the Login link. This will be in the top right corner if you have come direct to the home page, or or in the orange box below the article sample if you have followed an article-level link:

Now click on the OpenAthens login link:

You will now be logged in to ClinicalKey and will see our logo. If you have activated personalisation (see below), you will also see your name in the top right corner. (If you have not activated personalisation, you will see the words Logged in via Royal College ….)

If your final destination is lost in the process, you can go back to click the original link to the article or journal, which will take you straight there.

Personalisation

If this is your first visit to an Elsevier product (including ScienceDirect), you may wish to register with the website, although this is not necessary to access the journals. Registration does give you access to personalisation features, such as saved content, search history and the ability to create presentations within the site, along with access to PDFs of books within ClinicalKey. It also makes it much easier to tell if you are logged in, as your name will appear at the top right of the page.

Registration can be achieved by logging in to ClinicalKey and clicking on the Logged in via Royal College … link, then the Activate option at the top of the drop-down menu and filling in the registration form:

Getting help with online resources

If you're having problems, we are here to help. You can get assistance through any of the following means:

  • Email: library.athens@rcseng.ac.uk - we will usually respond with one working day
  • Telephone: 020 7869 6556 - the line is open between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays and College closure days
  • In person: members are welcome to visit the Library in person for assistance, and appointments can be arranged for in-person enquiries - please see the Library pages on the College website for more information.

It does help us if you can provide your College membership number with your enquiry - this will be on your membership page in the College website and on any personal communications sent by the College.
