Accessing online resources

Members, fellows, affiliates and associates of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Faculty of Dental Surgery can use their College login to access ejournals and other electronic resources.

Please note:

  • We always recommend logging in to the College website first, then visiting the required online resource (the login session will still be valid if you have not shut the browser down).
    • You cannot log in directly to any other site with your College login credentials.
  • Many sites will not check your login session when you first access them and will assume you are not authorised: you can usually prompt them to check by clicking on Institutional Login, OpenAthens or something similar.
    • You can find more information about this in this guide: see the tab at the side of the guide for the specific website.
    • Do not log in a second time!

Setting up your College Login

To set or reset your College login password:

  1. Go to the College homepage and click Login:

  1. On the login form, click Reset Password:

  1. On the new form, fill in your email address and click Email me (the email address must be known to the College):

  1. You should receive an email containing a link to set a new password; if this does not arrive within 5 minutes or so, please check your email junk folder as it may have been mistaken for spam. If clicking the link does not work, please copy the whole thing and paste it into the address bar of your browser:

  1. You should now be taken to the password reset screen. Decide on a new password and enter it twice, before clicking Change:

  1. After this, you should be logged in to the College website and be able to see your name at the top of the page. If not, click on the green Login link to show the login form and enter your email address and your new password.

Getting help with online resources

If you're having problems, we are here to help. You can get assistance through any of the following means:

  • Email: - we will usually respond with one working day
  • Telephone: 020 7869 6556 - the line is open between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays and College closure days
  • In person: members are welcome to visit the Library in person for assistance, and appointments can be arranged for in-person enquiries - please see the Library pages on the College website for more information.

It does help us if you can provide your College membership number with your enquiry - this will be on your membership page in the College website and on any personal communications sent by the College.
